Camera Storage & Bandwidth

Add cameras from the parts catalog. Bitrates come from each datasheet; the NVR is checked against its own limits.

How video storage is calculated

Storage is bitrate × recording time. A camera streaming 8 Mbps writes 1 MB every second, about 86 GB over 24 hours.

Each line uses the bitrate the manufacturer publishes. Hikvision lists 8 Mbps max for the DS-2CD2347G2-LU and 16 Mbps for the DS-2CD2786G2-IZS. Axis and Hanwha publish no bitrate number for these models, so those lines use Hikvision's recommended bitrate table and show it.

Motion recording multiplies by the share of the day recorded; RAID adds mirror or parity disks on top.

FAQ

Where do the bitrates come from? From each camera's datasheet. When the datasheet lists a maximum video bitrate, the calculator plans at that maximum, scaled to your frame rate. When it lists none, it uses Hikvision's recommended bitrate table for that resolution and frame rate, and says so on the line.
Can I mix camera models?Yes. Add each model from the parts catalog with its own quantity, frame rate and codec. Totals add up every line.
How is the NVR checked?Against its datasheet: channel count, incoming bandwidth and bays × max TB per drive, after RAID.
What if my camera is not in the catalog?Type the model and it goes to the catalog team as a suggestion. Until it is added, pick the closest catalog model with the same resolution.
Is TB decimal?Yes, 1 TB = 10¹² bytes, the way drive makers label disks.
