S1 (1) + S3 (4) + S4 (8) = 13

S6 ON + S7 ON → 38,400 bps · S8 OFF → no encryption

Before firmware 1.38.1, S6 and S7 both OFF is 2,400 bps. S8 encryption is undefined before that firmware.

Termination: Jumper J4 (not on the DIP bank): install on first and last unit only.

How DIP switch addressing works

Each module on an RS-485 bus needs its own address so the controller knows who is talking. Mercury boards read that address from switches 1–5 as a binary number.

Every switch has a weight that doubles: S1 = 1, S2 = 2, S3 = 4, S4 = 8, S5 = 16. Turn on the switches whose weights add up to the address. Five switches give 32 addresses, 0–31.

The rest of the bank is not address. On MR52-S3, MR16in-S3 and MR16out-S3, S6 and S7 set baud rate and S8 turns on encryption. Termination is a separate jumper on each board.

FAQ

How do I set a Mercury MR52 address?Switches 1–5 set the RS-485 address, 0–31, in binary: S1 = 1, S2 = 2, S3 = 4, S4 = 8, S5 = 16. Add the weights of the switches that are ON. Address 13 is S1 + S3 + S4.
What do switches 6, 7 and 8 do?On MR52-S3, MR16in-S3 and MR16out-S3, switches 6 and 7 set baud rate (both ON = 38,400 bps) and switch 8 turns on encrypted communication. They are not part of the address.
Where is RS-485 termination set?Not on the DIP bank. Each board has a termination jumper (J4 on MR52-S3, J3 on MR16in-S3, J1 on MR16out-S3). Install it on the first and last unit on the bus only.
Can two modules share an address? Not on the same RS-485 port. Each port is its own bus, so a second port can start again at address 0.
Why does my module stay offline after I change the switches?Match the address and baud rate in the host software, and check that every board on the bus uses the same baud rate.
